Brain spat out “Zhongli Predacon” and here we are.
Once one of the mighty Predacons, and closer to the other Cybertronian races than most of his kind, he managed to escape the insanity and death of his fellows with his shielding abilities (and by following the rest of the Cybertronians underground). He later reawakened from stasis to a world devoid of his kind, and decided to just quietly blend in among them to live out the rest of his life, making a living by performing funeral rites for the fallen. Like there was no one left to do for his brethren.
Occasionally someone will become cognizant of the fact that they’ve never actually seen his vehicle mode, but he’s gotten very good at coming up with interesting conversation topics to distract people from that train of thought.
